Digital Products Are a Hot Topic Right Now… But There’s a Problem

Let’s talk about digital products and online courses—everyone seems to be talking about them, if you log on to TikTok or Instagram they are ALL OVER your feed… And for good reason! Online Courses and Digital Products often offer incredible value, especially for those looking to learn how to start an e-commerce business, or generate more sales in their e-commerce busniess without the hefty price tag of one-on-one mentoring or mastermind programs.

But here’s the issue: the internet is flooded with a lot of very low-quality digital products, and it’s frustrating to see because it means that the genuinely valuable ones get lost in the crowd. There’s even a few pyramid schemes out there, so you have to be CAREFUL about what you are buying online if you are serious about getting results…

I Conducted an Experiment…

Recently, I decided to do a little experiment. I signed up for a bunch of free digital products—some that piqued my personal interest and others that might be relevant to my ecommerce founder clients. My goal? To see who’s actually offering valuable advice and who’s just putting out subpar content to make some quick cash online.

The results were eye-opening. About 60% of the products I signed up for provided genuine value, which was reassuring. These were from people who clearly had expertise in their field, and I had already done some background checks before signing up. Interestingly, most of these creators didn’t have massive followings, but their online presence made it clear they knew what they were talking about. Unfortunately, I bet these are the ones that are getting lost because they don’t have a huge audience to showcase their amazing work.

Then there’s the other 40%—the digital products that were utterly useless. If I’d paid for these, I’d be seriously disappointed. Shockingly, some of these low-quality offerings came from accounts with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of followers. It’s no wonder the digital product world is getting a bad reputation. People are becoming increasingly wary of what they buy online, fearing they’ll waste money on yet another course that doesn’t deliver what it promises.

How to Find High-Quality E-Commerce Courses?

If you’re considering purchasing an online e-commerce course or any digital product, it’s crucial to ensure you’re getting real value for your money. Digital products from creators who genuinely provide value can seriously help you level up your business, especially if you’re just starting out and don’t have the budget for mentoring or expensive programs.

That’s why I created my own e-commerce courses. I was repeatedly asked the same questions by aspiring entrepreneurs, so it made perfect sense to package my knowledge into an online course that could be easily accessed on-demand, at an affordable cost.

Here Are Three Tips to Help You Choose the Right Online E-Commerce Course:

If you’re wanting to invest in a digital product or online course, but you’re worried about wasting your money, here are a few tips that should keep you from investing in something utterly cr*p.

  1. Check The Creators Credentials: Before purchasing any course, do a little research. Look up the seller on LinkedIn, Google them, or even ask ChatGPT for a quick background check. You want to ensure they have real life experience or a level of expertise in what they’re teaching. If you can’t find any evidence of that – then maybe steer clear!

  2. Look for Reviews: Not everyone is great at showcasing testimonials, and sometimes they can be buried deep on social media. A quick way to find reviews is to visit the creator’s website and see what others are saying about their other services. Like my testimonial page on my website for example.

  3. Test Them Out with Freebies: Before committing to a purchase, sign up for any free resources they offer. This will not only give you a taste of their style and content but also help you decide if their information is actually useful for your needs.
