Where your attention goes, energy flows!

This is why less is sometimes more in your e-commerce business

I had a reminder recently that energy flows where your attention goes. And it couldn’t be more true when it comes to running an e-commerce business.

As entrepreneurs, we often wear multiple hats, juggling so many different tasks simultaneously. It’s so easy to get lost in the chaos of a million different responsibilities, believing that they are all equally important.

I personally am incredibly guilty of this, especially now that I’m managing two businesses, my E-commerce Consultancy and my new e-commerce business TINAH. With big goals for both, splitting my attention has taught me A BIG lesson about the power of focus.

What Happens When You Spread Yourself Too Thin?

When your energy and attention are divided across multiple tasks, you end up not truly focusing on anything at all. For instance, if you’re running an e-commerce business and trying to grow your audience on Instagram or TikTok while also focusing on increasing sales on your website, getting your product stocked in a dream retailer, launching a pop-up shop, managing email marketing, and providing customer service, you’re essentially trying to do the job of several people at once.

While it’s not impossible to tackle all these tasks simultaneously, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of prioritizing your focus. When you spread yourself too thin, you dilute your efforts, and often, nothing gets the attention it deserves, leading to disappointing results…

How Do You Prioritize?

The key to success lies in prioritizing your focus and dedicating your full attention to each one when it’s a priority. This is where real results come from. When you successfully establish one area of your business, you can shift your focus to the next priority and maintain the progress you’ve made.

To help maintain focus and energy in your business on the things that are actually truly important, consider creating a list of priorities for the next month or quarter. Ask yourself and journal on:

– What is the business goal I am currently working towards?

– Where am I not currently getting results on that goal that I am disappointed by?

– Where have I been spending most of my attention in my business lately and has that provided tangible results working towards the goal?

– What is the most pressing area to achieve said goal that needs more of my attention?

– Out of the above what is a NEED and what is a WANT to do to achieve that goal?

– What tasks will give me the highest return on investment towards achieving my goal? (investment could mean: time/money/energy spent on them)

– Can I delegate or automate any of these tasks to free up my time to focus on more pressing things?

By evaluating and organizing your priorities, you can create a clear action path forward. From the above now you can create a task list of NEEDS, WANTS, and KEY PRIORITIES that are going to help you get closer to the goal you listed.

Do You Need Some Help?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with your e-commerce business and struggling to stay focused, seeking guidance from an e-commerce mentor or coach can be very beneficial. As an e-commerce strategist ****I often work with clients to help them get really clear on their business goals, and refine their approach to get closer to achieving them. I also provide a high level of accountability to keep you focusing on the right things, limiting distractions and staying on track to keep you focused on the most pressing tasks, so if you have a big business goal you are working towards right now and need a bit of extra accountability, focus or a more strategic action plan why not book in for a discovery call to see if I’m a good fit to support you. I tried to live a “normal” life: I spent 11+ years working my way up in the fashion industry, working for brands like Ralph Lauren and Burberry. I had the apartment in the city, I lived for going out at the weekends, spent money on designer bags and holidays – until I realized this lifestyle DID NOT FULFIL MEI was waking up with anxiety every day – surviving, but definitely not thriving.

So I quit. I left my 9-to-5 behind to start an online business that supported the lifestyle I actually wanted. Now that looks like slow mornings, daily beach walks, co-working with like-minded entrepreneurs, yoga, meditation, and lots of social connections.

Since 2020, I’ve built multiple online business offers – from online business coaching and consulting to online courses, digital products, and a mental health marketplace – all while travelling the world and living life, and earning money on my own terms.

Now… I’m on a mission to help more people break free from lives that don’t feel good for them and create more freedom through starting and growing an online business.
