Why Your Entrepreneur Mindset Will Make or Break Your Online Business
If I’m going to be brutally honest – there’s nothing I hate more than someone with a closed mindset – especially when they’re an entrepreneur!
So let me ask you: are you the type of person who sees opportunities everywhere, even if you don’t fully know what you’re doing yet? Do you still give things a go, because you know even if you fail, you’ll at least learn something valuable?
Or… are you the type who shuts down new ideas, resists trying new things, and sees constant blocks in your path?
If you’re an entrepreneur running an online business, I really hope you resonate with the first scenario. Because if you don’t, you’re going to keep hitting the same walls, over and over again. And those walls won’t just slow you down — they can stop your growth entirely.
A Closed Mindset is a Growth Killer
For me, the second attitude is a perfect example of a closed mindset. It’s the belief that if something isn’t 100% certain, it’s not worth trying. That if success isn’t guaranteed, it’s safer not to take the risk.
But here’s the thing: nothing is guaranteed in entrepreneurship. Success comes from testing, failing, pivoting, learning the lesson, and trying again.
I’ve seen this play out so many times as an online business coach. Founders with a closed mindset get stuck in fear. They focus so much on the risks that they miss the opportunities.
For example, if someone has a closed mindset:
They don’t invest in ads or marketing because they’re scared it “won’t work.”
They refuse to outsource or hire support because they only see the cost, not the investment in growth.
They avoid learning new platforms, tools, or strategies because it feels uncomfortable.
The outcome of having a closed mindset? Stagnation. They stay stuck in the same place, frustrated that their business isn’t growing.
Why an Open Mindset is Essential for Online Business Success
On the flip side, having an open mindset means being willing to explore opportunities, take risks, and embrace challenges.
It doesn’t mean being reckless. It means saying: “I don’t know everything yet, but I’m willing to try, learn, and grow.”
That’s what having a growth mindset in entrepreneurship is all about. Believing that skills can be learned, problems can be solved, and failure is just part of the process.
And let me tell you: this shift can transform everything in your business.
My Own Mindset Transformation
I’ll be honest with you — when I first started my online business and entrepreneurship journey, I was definitely more of a “category two” person. I hesitated. I second-guessed myself. I often focused more on the negatives than the potential positives.
But as I went deeper into building my own online business, I realised this way of thinking was holding me back.
It wasn’t until I started working with mindset coaches, experimenting with manifestation practices, and learning tools for reframing my beliefs that things started to change.
I also had a few business failures along the way (because yep, failure is part of the journey). And each failure taught me something that made me stronger.
Over time, I shifted from “black and white thinking” into constant growth, pivots, and upgrades. I stopped resisting change and started to embrace it. That mindset shift was a total game-changer — not just for my business, but for my life.
Business Coaching Helps You Build a Growth Mindset
Here’s the thing: changing your mindset isn’t always easy on your own. That’s why mentorship can be so powerful.
A business coach can help you spot your blind spots — the limiting beliefs that are keeping you stuck. They give you perspective, hold you accountable, and push you to see opportunities where you only see obstacles.
That’s why so many entrepreneurs I work with tell me: “I wish I’d invested in support sooner.” Because while you can do it alone, it’s a much slower, harder road.
As an online business coach, these are some of the most common mindset blocks I see.
Over the years, I’ve noticed three mindset blocks that come up again and again for online business founders:
Fear of Failure
So many entrepreneurs are so scared of making mistakes that they never take the first step. But failure isn’t the opposite of success — it’s the path to it.Believing You Have to Know Everything Before You Start
This one keeps people stuck in learning mode forever. The truth? You’ll never know everything before you begin. You learn by doing.Fear of Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
It feels safer to stick with what you know, even if it’s not working. But growth only happens outside your comfort zone. That’s why having a coach or mentor can be a game-changer — they’ll push you to try new things.
Unfortunately, I’ve also seen that if a founder keeps operating with a closed mindset, they cap their business growth.
You’ll miss opportunities because they feel too risky. You’ll avoid changes that could actually make your business more profitable. You’ll hold yourself back because you’re too focused on the “what if it doesn’t work” instead of “what if it does?”
In the fast-paced world of online business, staying stuck isn’t an option.
How to Shift Into a Growth Mindset
The good news? You can absolutely shift into a more open, growth-focused mindset. Here’s where I’d start:
Recognise the pattern. Notice when you’re shutting down ideas before you’ve even given them a chance.
Challenge your beliefs. Ask yourself: is this really a fact, or just a fear?
Seek external support. Work with a mentor, join a program, or surround yourself with people who think bigger.
Take small, consistent risks. Don’t wait for perfect. Try something new, fail fast, and learn from it.
The more you practice this, the more natural it becomes.
Are You Ready to Unlock Your Full Potential?
At the end of the day, your mindset is what will make or break your online business. A closed mindset keeps you stuck. A growth mindset keeps you moving forward.
You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. If you’re ready to stop letting mindset blocks hold you back and want support building a stronger, more resilient entrepreneur mindset, I’d love to help.
