Using your human design for business can be a very powerful tool to explore in your entrepreneurial journey. And I say that as someone who resonates with all things “woo”, is very open-minded, and has lived by reading my astrology chart daily for many years, but human design feels different…

Human design is not a personality test you fill out from your conditioned mind. It’s deeper than that – drawing on your birth date, birth time, and birthplace to map out exactly how you are meant to move through the world, make decisions, and show up in your work. And for me whenever I have explored human design, or had my human design explained by an expert – it’s been scarily accurate!

For years, I built my business using traditional entrepreneurship models – posting multiple times a day on social media, following the gurus, chasing the trends. The more I chased business trends, the more it felt like my business drained me. It felt like I was constantly forcing things to happen, I was working for my business, but it didn’t feel like it was working for me – until I started understanding myself better – through tools like human design – then I started to feel like my business was working for me, not like I was working for another job.

Although I personally don’t teach or use human design in my coaching – the concept of building a business that is in better alignment with your natural way of working is the whole foundation of my Freedom Model Method, so I really feel drawn to the concept of using human design for business.

Human Design Explained: What It Is And What It Is Not

Human design is not a personality test, and I want to be clear about that because a lot of people confuse it with things like Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, or StrengthsFinder. The key difference? Those tests are answered from a conditioned mind – shaped by your upbringing, your experiences, societal pressure, maybe even trauma. So when you answer those questions, how much of it is really you, and how much is who you were taught to be?

Human design draws on ancient modalities – I Ching, astrology, Vedic philosophy – and uses your birth data (including three months before you were born) to map out your energetic blueprint. Your chart covers:

How you are meant to move through the world and make decisions
How you interact with people and what environments you thrive in
What kind of work energises you and what drains you
How to market in a way that feels natural and attracts the right people

Most people who read their chart for the first time say the same thing: they feel seen in a way they never have before. Not “that kind of fits” – more like “how does it know that about me?” Your human design explained is the science of differentiation. It is about coming home to yourself before the world told you who to be.

Human Design For Business: The 5 Energy Types You Need To Know

If you want to use your human design for business, you need to start at the highest level of your chart with your personal energy type.

There are five energy types in human design, and each one has a completely different way of working, generating energy, and showing up. This is where so many entrepreneurs go wrong – they follow the same traditional entrepreneurship models regardless of their type, and then cannot understand why they are burnt out, their business is not feeling good for them, or not getting results.

What are the five human design energy types?

Manifesting Generators (this is my personal energy type) are non-linear energy beings. We are not meant to do things the conventional way – we are built for trial and error, pivoting fast, and following what genuinely lights you up (sounds very familiar for me). When we love our work, our energy is almost endless. When we do not, we burn out fast. (exactly what I teach in my Freedom Model Method). When I use my human design for business as a manifesting generator, I give myself permission to quit things that stop feeling good – mid-way through if needed – having that permission changed everything for me, boundaries were built. It feels very empowering to use my human design for business in this way. I tried the opposite and burnt out, so this new way feels very aligned.
Generators are the light force of the world – more linear and step-by-step than manifesting generators. Based on your human design your aura is open, and the people around you can literally feel your energy. If you love your work, you can go all day. If you do not, you will burn out and drain everyone around you in the process. The key for generators is finding work that genuinely excites you – because when you are in that energy, opportunities follow naturally.
Projectors often struggle the most with traditional entrepreneurship models because they are not energy beings. Projectors have a penetrating aura and can see people and systems better than anyone else. But you are only meant to work in two to four-hour windows before you need rest. Naps are not lazy for a projector – they are necessary. If hustle culture has left you completely depleted, this is why.
Manifestors are here to initiate new ideas and bring new energy into the world. You work in intense bursts – fully immersed for a period, then needing to completely step back. Trying to show up consistently every single day goes against your design. Building a business that allows for that natural ebb and flow is not inconsistency – it is exactly how you are meant to operate.
Reflectors make up just 1% of the population. All of your energy centres are open, which means you reflect back the energy of the environments around you. If you are surrounded by negative or misaligned energy, you will absorb it. Your environment and the people you surround yourself with are the most important business decisions you will ever make.

Human design for business makes how you operate so clear: there is no single formula that works for everyone (another thing I teach in my Freedom Model Method) – for true business success, I really believe in everyone carving out their own path – using human design for business in this way can help that!

Your Human Design Authority Is The Most Important Thing When Using Human Design For Business Decision-Making

Your human design authority is the most crucial part of your chart when it comes to using your human design for business – because it is how you are meant to make decisions. And in business, decisions are literally everything.

Here is how the main authorities work:

Emotional authority (almost half of all people): You are not meant to make fast decisions. Ride out your emotional wave before you commit. Say yes in a rush of excitement and bypass that process, and you will often find yourself wondering why you agreed to something that does not feel right in your body.
Sacral authority (generators and manifesting generators): You get a gut response – a quick yes or no in your body. The problem is that most of us have been so conditioned by outside noise that we have completely drowned that instinct out. Learning to listen to it again is the work.
Lunar authority (reflectors): Big decisions need 28 days to sit with. Do not rush it.
Mental authority: Talk your ideas out loud with a neutral person – not someone who will give you opinions back, but someone who simply listens while you think out loud.

Most entrepreneurs follow the traditional entrepreneurial models, do things that don’t align with them, make decisions based on conditioning, then burnout – I see this with my clients ALL THE TIME!

Human design for business has so many layers. The next one I want to talk about is your profile – the two numbers in your chart. These numbers tell you how you are meant to put energy out into the world and how you are meant to receive it back. Your human design profile directly affects how you should be marketing and showing up online for your business.

There is also something called your vibe of tribe – the line quality in your chart that shows you who you are here to serve, what they need to hear from you, and how to show up in your messaging. This is the part of human design that most people overlook, because the mainstream conversation tends to stop at energy type and authority. You are not here to help everyone
