Stop Waiting For Success To Happen - Adopt This Entrepreneurial Mindset And Make It Happen Instead!
In a world that typically influences us to follow a predetermined path and societal norms, TRUE success usually only comes to those who dare to create their own opportunities. Stepping off the beaten path can quite often be frowned upon by those who would never dare to do that, meaning entrepreneurs usually find they need to approach success slightly differently than the average person in a 9-5, and this typically requires you to step into an entrepreneurial mindset.
When I talk about true success, I am referring to your personal definition of it and NOT what success looks like on paper for society (ie: marriage, babies, the house, £100k a year salary, nice car, good job etc).
Success of course, looks different for everyone, but the good thing about success in entrepreneurship is that we get to define what it looks like for us and put measures in place to get it!
For some entrepreneurs, it usually means hitting a certain financial target in their business or creating a specific level of impact. For others, the measure of success might be waking up happy every day, or loving what you do, being able to work less and live more (this is my personal definition anyway, and why I help people build a business that works for the lifestyle they want to live).
The difference between those who achieve “success of paper” vs “true success” (aka their personal definition of success) is the person who is willing to take the risk to get it!
Your “dream business” won’t magically start itself – you must be willing to create it.
You won’t just wake up one day and be transported into living your “dream life”.
Nothing happens by chance!
The people (and entrepreneurs) who get what they want in life are the ones who are not afraid to break free from societal expectations, challenge their limiting beliefs, and take bold, intentional steps towards their vision.
To do this, they have to adopt a growth focused entrepreneurial mindset!
Do You Have The Entrepreneurial Mindset to Change Direction?
Every transformative journey in life begins with a single, courageous decision, one that fully aligns with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Normally, that means stepping away from what was maybe once your definition of success and moving towards your new version of it.
A great example of someone who did this that was my recent podcast guest on The Remote CEO Life – Roshanne Dorsett – a successful law professional who realized that her prestigious career was slowly negatively impacting her mental health… Instead of staying trapped in a high-stress environment that didn’t align with her true self, she made the radical choice to pivot completely and start something in a field she had 0 experience or knowledge in. You can listen to Roshanne share her story here!
In order to step away from the old, and in to the new you are going to need a high level of self-awareness, to help you identify where you are going next.
Ask yourself are you:
- Feeling constantly stressed and unfulfilled by your day-to-day job?
- Dreading your workdays and getting the Sunday scaries every single week?
- Sensing a misalignment between your professional life and personal values?
- Experiencing emotional exhaustion that extends beyond work hours?
These are not just job dissatisfaction symptoms – they’re signals that something in your life isn’t working for you and is ready to change direction. Many people won’t make a change out of fear, but those who do quite clearly have a growth entrepreneurial mindset and will probably do whatever it takes to achieve their version of success.
I’ve been there so many times in my career as a fashion buyer, where I felt one, or sometimes all of the above, and I didn’t know I could do anything about it, I didn’t realize then that I had the power to make a change and create new opportunities for myself.
If you’re feeling that way, do you realize you are able to create new opportunities for yourself? Let me share with you exactly how you can do it.
Step #1 Start By Doing Your Research
When Roshanne decided to leave law and launch a skincare brand, she didn’t jump blindly.
When I started my mental health marketplace, I didn’t just wake up and start researching products… The first approach for both of us (which should be the first task in your entrepreneurial strategy) was thorough research and market validation.
Research tactics include:
- Accessing market trend reports
- Understanding the target audience deeply
- Analyzing adjacent industries for insights
- Building a comprehensive understanding of your potential market
By treating research as a strategic tool, she was able to transform uncertainty into calculated opportunity creation.
I teach a whole module on researching your market in my signature programme The Freedom Model Method – in which you’ll learn how to start an online business that works for your version of success, not the one society told you to have. Find out more about that here!
Step #2: Start Networking
Networking might be your biggest missed opportunity – Networking isn’t about collecting business cards – it’s about building genuine connections. And people won’t just come to you, you have to put yourself out there to build authentic relationships.
Here’s how you can build authentic relationships to benefit your business:
- Start digitally by engaging with content from people you admire
- Approach connections as potential friends, not transactional contacts
- Ask open-ended questions that invite meaningful conversation
- Be genuinely interested in others’ journeys
Remember, every meaningful connection is a potential doorway to opportunities you can’t yet imagine.
Step #3: Embrace the Entrepreneurial Mindset
Creating opportunities requires a fundamental shift in perspective. Your mindset most likely needs to change as your reality changes… Instead of seeing obstacles, successful entrepreneurs view challenges as:
- Learning experiences
- Opportunities for innovation
- Chances to differentiate themselves
- Moments to demonstrate resilience
The entrepreneurial mindset isn’t about eliminating fear – it’s about moving forward despite it, so to embrace the new opportunities you are creating for yourself, your mindset must catch up with you to allow you to do that.
As I know how important an entrepreneurial mindset is when building a business it’s the first module in my signature programme The Freedom Model Method – we’ll uncover any limiting beliefs that might hold you back from starting your online business so you have a clearer path to achieving success. I'm Sophie
Online business coach, podcast host, mental health advocate, speaker, founder of TINAH, community builder, full-time digital nomad, and general trailblazing, rule breaker…
I tried to live a “normal” life: I spent 11+ years working my way up in the fashion industry, working for brands like Ralph Lauren and Burberry. I had the apartment in the city, I lived for going out at the weekends, spent money on designer bags and holidays – until I realized this lifestyle DID NOT FULFIL ME – I was waking up with anxiety every day – surviving, but definitely not thriving.
So I quit. I left my 9-to-5 behind to start an online business that supported the lifestyle I actually wanted. Now that looks like slow mornings, daily beach walks, co-working with like-minded entrepreneurs, yoga, meditation, and lots of social connections.
Since 2020, I’ve built multiple online business offers – from online business coaching and consulting to online courses, digital products, and a mental health marketplace – all while travelling the world and living life, and earning money on my own terms.
Now… I’m on a mission to help more people break free from lives that don’t feel good for them and create more freedom through starting and growing an online business.
